Velma H. Buth

Velma H. Buth, age 92, of Manitowoc, passed away early Friday morning, June 11, 2021 at River’s Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc.

Velma was born on April 26, 1929 in Maribel, daughter of the late Otto and Eleanor (Westphal) Kempfert. She was baptized on May 12, 1929 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Maribel. On May 23, 1943 Velma was confirmed at the same church. On May 21, 1949 she married her long-time sweetheart Vernon Buth at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Maribel. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2017. They had three children. She worked with Vernon in their store, Buth Flooring Covering until her retirement in 1991. In retirement Velma and Vernon spent time at their home up north in Goodman. She enjoyed cooking, baking and taking care of her rock flower garden. Velma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her three children: Sharon Stern, Maple Grove, MN, Bonnie Bauer, Glendale, AZ, Gary (Nina) Buth, Manitowoc; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Otto and Eleanor Kempfert; her husband: Vernon Buth; two sons-in-law: Lee Stern, Peter Bauer; one sister: Lorraine Zeamer; two brothers: Frederick Kempfert, Arnold Kempfert; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Minnie and Louis Buth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Matt Zimpelmann will officiate with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
