Sister Cyrilla Jackels, age 100 a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away on April 5, 2024, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
The former Elizabeth Jackels was born on April 9, 1923, in Kaukauna, WI, daughter of the late Nickolas Jackels and Christina (Schmidt) Jackels. She entered the convent in 1941 and professed her vows in 1944. Sister Cyrilla earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Holy Family College, Manitowoc, WI.
Sister Cyrilla served as a teacher at St. Anthony, Neopit; St. John, Seymour; St. Michael, Whitelaw; Guardian Angels, Oneida; St. Paul, Manitowoc; Sacred Heart, Sherwood; St. Therese, Appleton; St. Ann, Francis Creek; St. Mary, Greenleaf; Corpus Christi, Sawyer (Sturgeon Bay), all in Wisconsin; Cathedral, Honolulu and St. Theresa, Kekaha, both in Hawaii; Immaculate Conception, Yuma, Arizona; and Santa Maria Reina and Colegio Maria Reina, both in Lima, Peru. Following her years of teaching, Sister Cyrilla served as a Sponsor Presence Representative at Genesis HealthCare System, Zanesville, Ohio; and performed various tasks while at Holy Family Convent and St. Francis Convent, both in Manitowoc. She had been a member of St. Rita Health Center since 2018.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Nickolas, and Christina (Schmidt) Jackels, siblings (in-laws): Agnes Jackels, Marcella (George) Mielke, Norbert (Enid) (Sally) Jackels, Anthony Jackels, Louis (Bernice) Jackels, Regina (Cyril) Halbach, Evelyn Jackels, Ethel Jackels and Dolores (Aloys) Van Camp.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass will be the Rev. Gerald Prusakowski, OFM, with burial to follow at the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm at the Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
