Rita M. (Wanish) Tisler

Rita M. Tisler, age 97 of Manitowoc died Thursday, March 10, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving daughter.

Rita was born on December 15, 1924 in Rosecrans, oldest child of seven of the late Frank W. and Mary L. (Cavanaugh) Wanish. She graduated from Denmark High School in 1943 and the Manitowoc Teacher’s College in 1945. On October 12, 1946 Rita was married to Joseph R. Tisler, he preceded her in death on March 14, 1981. Rita was a school teacher for ten years in the rural Manitowoc County schools and a payroll clerk for the Holiday House in Manitowoc retiring in 1986. Following retirement, she helped people in their homes as a care giver.

Rita was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, bird watching, all of nature especially chipmunks, her fur baby kitty “Betsy”, cooking and baking, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers and spending time with family and friends. Rita made the best Christmas treats.

She is survived by one daughter: Kathy Tisler, Manitowoc; one sister: Veronica Rabas, Kewaunee; one brother and three sisters-in-law: Dan (Dottie) Wanish, De Pere, Marilyn Wanish, Manitowoc, Dorothy Tisler, Menchalville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Mary Wanish; husband: Joseph R. Tisler; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Florence (Tom) Reedy, Donald Rabas; three brothers: George Wanish, John Wanish, Vic Wanish; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Stanley (Lovella) Tisler, Jack Tisler, Molly (William) Korinek, Grace Tisler.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 524 Tower Avenue, Kellnersville. The Rev.’s Santiago Turiano Jr. and David Wanish will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Face masks are optional. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society of Manitowoc.
