John A. Schmidt

John Anthony Schmidt, 60, of Valders passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his home.

John was born on August 19, 1962 in Manitowoc to the late Gordon E. and Monica M. (Meidl) Schmidt. He attended Valders Schools. John worked for International Paper Company in Manitowoc. John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Clarks Mills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, gardening, doing odd jobs and helping people. He was loved and adored by all his friends and family.

John is survived by his children: Chelsea (Jake) Grosshuesch, and John (Sage) Schmidt; granddaughters: Ellie, Josie, and baby Mazie due in February; brothers and sisters: Gloria (John) Reis, Mary Isaacson, Susie (Tom) Phillip, Brenda (Keith) Johnson, Janet Kornely, Julie (Guy) Dehne, Ann (Tim) Klein, and Joe (Doreen) Schmidt; sister-in-law: Kathy (Ed) Lorenz; and brother-in-law: Robert “Z” Zajdel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his son: Joe Schmidt; his parents: Gordon and Monica Schmidt; brother: Gordon Schmidt; sister: Marjorie Zajdel; and brothers-in-law: Steve Kornely, Jim Mankins, and Glenn Isaacson.

A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Clarks Mills, with Rev. Richard Klingeisen officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 4:00 pm. John will be laid to rest with his son Joe at the church cemetery.
