Jean Baumann Obituary

Jean Ann Baumann, 65, passed away unexpectedly and was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 30th, 2022.

A Valentine’s Day baby, Jean was born February 14th, 1957 in Sheboygan, WI to Eugene and Ann Bemis.  She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia.  On Friday, May 13th, 1983 she married John Baumann at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia, and recently celebrated 39 years of wedded love and faithfulness.  They resided on their small hobby farm through the course of her married life.

Jean’s working history included: Bemis manufacturing in the 90’s, seasonal work for her family’s floral business at Bemis Upland Springs Floral, working as a nurse’s assistant, various jobs in both Florida and Washington D.C. in her time away, and assisting her husband with field work and attending to the care of sheep, pigs, horses and numerous farm animals which they raised.  Jean demonstrated quiet and confident strength and could throw a hay bale with the best of them, yet she was still gentle and nurturing enough to swaddle and bottle feed a sickly piglet or cold newborn lamb.

Not only did Jean love her animals which over the years included: guinea pigs, dogs, cats, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, pigs, sheep, calves and horses, but she also loved people and especially her family.

Despite many and various challenges with Jean’s ongoing health, her faith and constant trust in Christ was an anchor for her life, and she was greatly aided by the love and faithful care of her husband, John.  Jean instilled in her family the desire and love to care for people.  She modeled that care and was an embodiment of Jesus’ love to her family and those around her.  Her time was spent with her children and grandchildren teaching them her love for cribbage, sheephead, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching movies, or completing crossword puzzles.  Long talks about life and faith were treasures for her children that they will forever hold onto.  She is also remembered for her great love for elephants and her vast collection of elephant figurines and bobble heads.

Survivors include: husband John Baumann of Adell, her children Angela Baumann of Stevens Point, Rev. Josh (Margaret) Baumann of Stevens Point, Eugene (Dr. Sarah) Baumann of Richfield, Russell (Emilie) Baumann of Montague, MI.  Ten Grandchildren: Eliza, John, Peter, Savannah, Lydia, Zeke, Eli, Grace, Joy and Millie.  She is also survived by her brothers John Bemis of Adell, and Steve (Sandi) Bemis of Cascade and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Ann Bemis.

A service of Christian burial will be held at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Batavia on Tuesday, July 5th at 11:30 officiated by the Reverend Brian Krueger.  Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 followed by interment at St. Stephens’ cemetery with lunch to follow at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Jean’s memory.
