James "Jim" Broeckert Obituary

James N. “Jim” Broeckert, age 70, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc following health complications.

He was born March 20, 1951 in Manitowoc, son of the late Roman and Eleanor (Okonek) Broeckert. Jim graduated from Reedsville High School and was employed with the Holiday House of Manitowoc for most of his career. He loved listening to 60’s and 70’s music as well as reading magazines and watching game shows like Jeopardy. Jim also enjoyed art, including crocheting and needle point.

Survivors include his siblings: Donald (Susan) Broeckert, Orlando, Florida, Steven (Lisa) Broeckert, Waunakee, Paul Broeckert, St. Nazianz, Kenneth (Annie) DeRose-Broeckert, Peachtree City Georgia, Ann (Charles) Tindol, Telluride, Colorado, and Robert (Karen) Broeckert, Appleton; 15 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews, and one aunt: Imelda “Tillie” Scharenbroch, Sheboygan. Many cousins, other relatives and friends also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law: Ellen Broeckert; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 212 Church Street, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Following the service, Jim will be laid to rest at the St. Gregory Parish Cemetery, St. Nazianz.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 1551 North 8th Street, Manitowoc, 54220, in honor of his love for animals.

The Christianson and Deja Funeral Home of Valders is assisting the Broeckert family with funeral arrangements.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the numerous caregivers, group homes, and social workers who took care of Jim over the years. Also, a special thank you to the staffs of Holy Family Hospice and Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care and compassion given to Jim during his final days.
