Imelda "Babs" H. Sukowaty

Imelda H. Sukowaty, age 91, of the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, was invited home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus, early on Thursday morning March 23, 2023.

Imelda, also known as Babs, was born on September 12, 1931, daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes (Kautzer) Sukowaty. As a young girl, Imelda attended the Niles Road School down the road from her home on the family farm and then transferred to the St. Gregory Parish School, St. Nazianz, WI. She then finished her high school education at Sheboygan North High School (1975-1978). After high school, Imelda helped her brother Edward farm their homestead. She loved watching the newborn piglets, calves, and chicks as they grew and had a natural talent taking care of them along with her collection of cats.

Besides volunteering at St. Gregory Catholic Church, her family parish, Imelda kept busy working at the New Holstein Salvatorian Center, the Scenic View Villa Nutrition Center (St. Nazianz) and wherever she was needed. She was so proud of her work with the Auxiliary Post 477 Wagner, Eberle, Sukowaty Chapter.

Imelda was the youngest child in a family of five brothers and seven sisters and was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers: Herbert (Catherine), Raymond (Grace), Andrew “Buddy” (Lynnabelle), Joseph, and Edward Sukowaty; her sisters: Sr. Caroline PHJC, Rosella Hellert (Frank), Loretta (Ray) Leonard, Leona Sukowaty, Evelyn (Orville) Krebsbach, Irene (John) Powalish, and Marcella Sukowaty.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 214 Church St., St. Nazianz. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William Brunner with burial to take place at St. Gregory Parish Cemetery.

Not to be forgotten for their compassion, thoughtfulness, and loving care are the staff of the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center as well as the staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, especially Jeremy and Joe Zenk.

Imelda was always a friendly and pleasant woman who helped wherever needed, believing that serving others was more important than being served. Macht’s Gut, Babs, Macht’s Gut!
