Florence Kirt, age 95, formerly of 8302 Reifs Mills Rd., Manitowoc passed away on Friday January 27, 2023 at St. Mary’s Nursing Home, Manitowoc.
Florence was born on September 14, 1927 in the town of Franklin, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Hlavachek) Kostechka. She attended rural schools and graduated from Reedsville High School with the Class of 1945. Florence then attended Manitowoc County Normal, graduating in 1947 and taught rural schools in Fisherville, Grimms and Menchalville.
Florence was united in marriage to Melvin Kirt on June 5, 1951. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2007. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Alter Society and Rosary Group of St. Augustine. Florence was a dedicated volunteer of the Capital Civic Center, Manitowoc Historical Society and Manitowoc Health Care Center. She was proud to be a 2-gallon blood donor and very proud of her Bohemian heritage.
Survivors include her 9 children: Kathleen (Dan) Graves, Sheboygan; Kristine Herman, Manitowoc; Richard (Jane) Kirt, Francis Creek; Randolph (Lynn) Kirt, Manitowoc; Mary (Scott) Skinkis, Brillion; Melanie (Steve) Kirchman, Green Bay; Dan (Faye) Kirt, Manitowoc; David (Sue) Kirt, Green Bay; Rob (Sharon) Kirt, Manitowoc; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one sister: Marie Domek; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kenneth & Loretta Ansorge, Manitowoc; Eugene & Florence Svatek, Whitelaw; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Florence was preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Anna Kostechka, her husband Melvin Kirt, three sisters and brothers-in-law: Evelyn & Walter Brandl, Donna & Joe Stuiber, Marcie & Donald Lemberger, Norb Hennessey, Thomas Domek; and two brothers and sisters-in-law: Leo & Margie Kostechka, Barney & Arlene Kostechka.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Christian Raj with burial to take place at St. Anne Catholic Cemetery following services.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday, February 1, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m.
