Eugene Reitz Obituary

Our loved one was welcomed into Heaven on April 8, 2022, as the snow softly fell.  Eugene Louis Reitz was born on December 1, 1925 to Arnold and Nettie (Mueller) Reitz.  He lived in the Town of Forest and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.  He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School.

He married Lucille Waldschmidt on April 15, 1950.  They enjoyed 70 years of marriage before Lucille died on August 14, 2020.  Eugene and Lucille made their home in Plymouth, WI.  Gene worked 41 years at S and R Cheese in Plymouth until he retired.  He looked forward to the company picnic every year to see his co-worker buddies.

Gene was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran in Plymouth.  Even though Gene was a quiet man, you knew his faith was a blessing to him.  His Bible is well-worn.  He was faithful to read his devotions daily and enjoyed Bob Herrman’s Bible Class at St. John’s for many years.

Eugene loved to walk.  He would often walk to work and home again after a long day.  He made countless trips around the block or even hiked up the Catholic Church hill and back home again.  He even walked to Waldo for breakfast, but had Lucille join him for breakfast and she then drove him home!

He was a man who loved a routine.  Every day he would rise at 7 a.m. and had his coffee, followed by breakfast.  He would read his daily devotions, look at his favorite magazines searching for the hat pin or needle In Country or Reminisce.  He’d play Solitaire, with cards, and do his Word Search and watch The Price is Right.  He would make time to visit friends at The Brown Bottle and Cozy Bar.  Then it was time for his routine nap of the day in his recliner.  His coffee mug said it best, “Nothin’ Could Be Finer Than To Be In My Recliner”.  After a nap he would take some walks, have supper, watch Wheel of Fortune, and Reruns of Columbo, All in the Family, and The Jeffersons.  Then depending on the season he would follow The Brewers or The Packers.  Then it would be bedtime.  Gene and Lucille ended their day praying The 23rd Psalm.

Gene is survived by his children: Kathy (Jack) Brown, Oklahoma City, David (Sarah) Reitz, Elkhart Lake, and Joel (Leslie) Reitz, Pleasanton, CA.  Grandchildren: Madalyn (Jason) Zorn, School Hill, Hayley (Kevin) Werth, New Holstein, Aubrey (Jake) Krueger, Chilton, and Andrew (Addie) Reitz, Palo Alto, CA.  Great Grandchildren:  Evelyn Krueger, Owen Krueger, Aspyn Zorn, Teagan Reitz, Griffin Reitz, and Leo Werth.

Gene is also survived by his sister, Janet Jaeger; Sr. in Law, Marilyn Waldschmidt, Beatrice Waldschmidt, and Pat Reitz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, his parents, Arnold and Nettie Reitz, his siblings:  Dolores Birkholz, Lois Schreiner, George Reitz.  In laws: Armin Birkholz, Milt Schreiner, Dick Jaeger, Lorraine Kruger, Bill Kruger, Delbert Waldschmidt, Lorraine Waldschmidt, Vernon Waldschmidt, Irene Waldschmidt, Sylvia Waldschmidt, Donald Waldschmidt.
