Donald Bemis Obituary

Donald A. Bemis, a man to be remembered by family and friends as a loving person and a hard worker with impeccable integrity passed away peacefully at his home with family beside him on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the age of 86.

A lifelong resident of the town of Lyndon living on and farming the family farm Donald was born on June 4, 1936 in Sheboygan a son to the late Edward J. and Edna M. (Carman) Bemis.  He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1954 and furthered his education at UW Madison, taking courses in farming and construction.  As a farmer he was a wonderful steward of the land. He also did work as a mason. He became involved with the Future Farmers of America teaching generations of farmers to care for and respect the land.  He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and taught hunters safety.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association, a Clay Trap Club often competing and placing as High Gun.  He took annual trips hunting and fishing with some of his dearest friends.  He was also a talented bowler and cribbage player.  A seeker of knowledge and keeper of history.  If his help was needed he would willingly lend a hand.  He was also a generous blood donor, donating many gallons through the years.

Donald served in the National Guard for 6 years.

Those left to cherish Donald’s memory include his nieces and nephews, Linda (the late Tennis) Vernatter, Jim (Pam Owsley) Ingram, Sue (Tennis) Vance and Don (Carol) Ingram; great nieces and nephews; other relatives and a great many friends.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Ingram and his nephews Mike Ingram and Ricky Ingram.

Cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in the Town of Lyndon.

In preference to flowers memorials in Donald’s name may be directed to the Plymouth Historical Society.
